Stand atop the Wyndham Garden Hotel and enjoy the view over downtown Paramaribo and the Suriname river all the way to the district of Commewijne late in the afternoon. From here you can see part of Spanhoek from above with the large fountain and the “Statenmonument” in the middle as well as part of the Waterfront (Waterkant). Be sure to zoom in on the wreck of the Goslar in the middle of the Suriname river. During World War II the Goslar, a 6000 tonne German cargo ship, was scuttled in the Suriname river in order to prevent it from falling into Allied hands. It has since remained there.
At 35 meters, the Wyndham Garden building is the highest building in Paramaribo and opened its doors to the public on September 3rd 2011.
