You stand here on the Marinetrap (Navy Stairway), one of the main piers at the Waterfront in Paramaribo, during a beautiful sunset. As the water level in the Suriname river slowly drops to low tide, the green water coming from the interior mixes with the brown seawater on its way to the Atlantic ocean. A cargo ship is on its way to Nieuwe Haven (New Harbor), the main port facility in Suriname as far as general cargoes and containers are concerned.
The Marinetrap is located close to the Independence Square and it’s where official government/navy boats dock. It’s also where the boats with immigrants used to dock in Paramaribo in the past. Many people come to this location in the afternoon to relax and enjoy the sunset over the Suriname river.
