The Republic of Suriname celebrated 35 Years of Independence (35 Jaar Srefidensi) on the 25th of November 2010. As usual a lot of activities were planned on this day, one of which was an air show by the Smoke Squadron (Portuguese: Esquadrilha da Fumaça) of the Brazilian airforce. Using seven Embraer EMB-312 Tucano aircrafts they gave away a truly spectacular air show above the Independence Square in Paramaribo that made a lasting impression on everyone. While the show was ongoing a pilot was giving live commentary at the Independence Square explaining the various stunts that were being performed while music played in the background synchronously with the action. This was one of those events where photos and videos won’t be able to do it justice; you just had to be there!
The show started around 1 o’ clock in the afternoon on a hot, sunny day and lasted for about an hour. The pictures in the gallery below were all taken from the balcony of the Presidential Palace located at the Independence Square.
